Padraig Harrington went into the 2009 US Masters looking for a remarkable hat-trick of Major wins after victories in the 2008 British Open and the PGA Championship but, although he opened the tournament with a creditable first round 69, he was never really in the hunt and finished in midfield.

That performance in the 2009 US Masters rather sums up how things have gone for Harrington since his win in the PGA - he seems to have struggled to find a consistent level of form and had missed more missed cuts than had performances where he has been really in contention to win.

Harrington's record at Augusta also gives encouragement to those supporters and two missed cuts in 2003 and 2005 are the only negatives in nine appearances where he has made the top ten on three occasions and the top twenty on a further two.

A further plus point is that two of his best performances have been in some of his recent appearances (in 2007 and 2008) when finishing 7th and 5th respectively. He has also won the Par 3 contest at Augusta twice in 2003 and 2004 so he certainly enjoys the environment.
